And the countdown begins

Half a month to the WCBF and a month to London!

No more waiting. Plans and details are falling into place. The butterflies are multiplying and can not be ignored.

I have a desire to listen to every TOKIO song that has any reference to travelling. And there are LOTS.

My summer is just about to start.

First, to my grandmother's.

I always say this on Tuesdays, but Two more!

It's been a long week. A long two weeks. Usually I have a day to crash, but this time, I kind of bowled my way straight through. It was easier, but I can feel my body on the verge of screaming. Will crash after I put my laundry on.

July is almost over! When did that happen?

And the end of July means one more thing: ONE MONTH UNTIL LONDON!

I'm so not ready. Though I did buy a notebook to record my London adventure, so preparations have officially begun.

Morning Adventures: CoCoIchiban-ya - Being a regular

I've been getting the morning curry set so often that the staff remembered me and gave me chopsticks instead of a fork for my salad. Dude.

Wearing my rainboots!

While forging a mini street river in regular shoes just because you've given up has a sense of freedom, it can't beat the feeling of invincibility you get when walking fearlessly through puddles in rainboots.

Turning Pages: ゴーストハント 人形の檻

Started on the second Ghost Hunt book. I don't completely remember the original edition because I read it when I was in college, I'm originally a fan of the manga, I watched the anime which draws more from the manga than the novels, and the reason I read the original novels was to get to number 6 because the manga stopped in the middle of the story and I really wanted to know the end of the story so I sped through the first 5, possibly ignoring details left out of the manga.

What I'm trying to get at is that there are a bunch of characters in the perfect edition that I don't know, either because I don't remember them or because they are new. Either way, it makes the book more interesting.

Turning Pages: Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters

Sooo that was an enjoyable read. And easy. Possibly went by too quickly, but I guess it just means I have to get the next one.

It's raining, it's pouring

I got off at my home station and started to walk up the stairs to the surface, when I noticed a lot of people just waiting around. Took me a second to realize that buckets were coming down outside. Just this morning, I took my parasol with me to ward off the blaring sun.

Now, I could have waited for the rain to ease up, but did I? Of course not.

My bag had just enough give to cover everything inside and my parasol would cover my head and bag for the walk up the hill. The rest of me, of course, well, drenched doesn't even begin to describe it. My bottom half looked like I forged a river. In fact, I literally almost lost my shoe at the last intersection.

Lightning flashed five times on my way up and there were only four to five seconds until the thunder followed.

This was, as I suspected, a flash storm -Japan's been getting a lot recently- and as I write this post, the rain has already died down. Had I waited ten minutes or so, I would not have had to wring my skirt out at the front door. But it's not every day you get to tread through a mini-river to get home and know you'll still be in a good mood when you get to your doorstep. I was laughing all the way up the hill.

It might have had to do with the fact that I just bought the second Percy Jackson book and I was imagining the wrath of Zeus.

Oh, the little things that keep my world a happy and amusing one.

If it was still raining, I'd don my rain boots and poncho and venture back outside, but I'm now dry and in my PJs with two new books to read, which I protected from the deluge. So I'm going to curl up in my bed and give in to my guilty pleasure of ignoring everything else I need to do and just read.

At the theater: 風立ちぬ

Movie number four! SO MANY PEOPLE!

At the theater: 銀魂 完結編 Afterthoughts

I originally wrote this massively babbling post, and then I realized none of my friend's watch Gintama and I don't need to preserve such babble.

So here's my conclusion: Gintama fans will love this movie and non-Gintama fans will be left behind in the unapologetic dust.

Oh, and one more random note, this was the first time I've heard that many Japanese people laugh out loud during a movie. One more point to Gin-chan.

At the theater: 銀魂 完結編

Yep, finished (extra) work and just went ahead and came to the theater. 109 this time. Haven't been here in a while.

Movie's at 7:20 and I got here at 6:30, so I got dinner first. Showed my ticket and got a free mini dessert. Got 10% off at lunch as well at Midland. Good stuff.

I haven't been to so many movies in a week in years.

Turns out on Tuesday cardholders can get a reclining seat for the same reduced 1300yen. Sweet. Though I'm currently the only person with a reclining seat that has it reclined. Such a waste.

And it's showtime!

Turning Pages: Percey Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Finished! That was satisfying.

I want to go to the bookstore and buy the rest. Got a call from Sanseido that my Ghosthunt book came in and is waiting for me.

Mmm, books and movies make Mel a very happy camper.

At the theater: Monsters University

Movie number two this week. Hoping for number three tonight.

I would have watched this movie anyway, but it was one of the early trailers that got me. The disco ball. Oh and Nathan Fillion is one of the monsters. Sweet.

Two, then two more

But no hands of blue.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I agreed to teach two lessons in the afternoon. It isn't too bad. I just can't collapse like I normally would after my morning shift.

I'm debating rewarding myself with the Gintama movie afterwards.

Retail Therapy: One thing leads to another...

I went to the movies today. And I bought tix for tomorrow and Thursday.

So that got me in a spending mood.

I saw the trailer for the new Percy Jackson movie and my Ghosthunt book hadn't come in yet, so I bought The Lightning Thief to tie me over. But I used some bookstore points and got 100yen off.

Then I found some stationery that I fell in love with and used some Tokyu Hands points and got 1000yen off.

At least I controlled myself and didn't get any pens.

At the theater: After Earth

Dude, summer vacation. I'm not used to this many people in the theater at 9am. Not a lot, but still...

After Earth isn't crowded though. So yay.

I love my work schedule.

Morning Adventures: Tendresse Saint Germain

Toast set. 500 yen.

So I got to Midland Square and the theater opens at 8:45, so I'm getting breakfast first.

Movie week

Happened to have a gap in lessons today, so I decided to watch a movie between shifts. In fact, since I'm in town this week, I've decided to watch another movie after work tomorrow. So it's After Earth today and Monster's University tomorrow.

Then I'm watching the new Ghibli film with a friend on Thursday. Movies are awesome.

If I can find a way to squeeze it in, I want to watch the Galileo movie again.

Yay movies!

Still hot...

But not too bad. Just sweaty today. Ick.

And this is why I put my makeup on at work.

Friday, July 19, 2013

Wow, it's actually a nice day.

I think there's a massive lack of humidity or something. It's hot, but not icky. My kind of summer day. I took advantage of my late morning and the nice weather and slept in. It was glorious.

But now, to work! I have a big break in the beginning of my day, but I have to use it to prep. Shouldn't be too hard of a day.

In other news, my stress might have hit a high; my right eyelid is twitching. *sigh* Not much I can do but let it pass. All other options involve more stress.

Fun days off coming up, hanging out with peoples, so I'm jurt going to look forward to those and not sweat it too much.

Back to Nagoya

I'm not sure if I'm rested or not, but I don't really have a choice. Work tomorrow. Meh.

At least I can take my time getting back. The sun's on its way down and there's a really nice breeze. Starting at 1pm has its perks.

Vining on the Shink

Practice makes perfect?

I just hope it holds on until I get a wifi connection. I lose Vines occasionally because my iPad is a wifi only model. It's okay though. Helps me learn how to let go.

Two more!

It's been a while since I posted one of these.

It's unbelievably nice right now. Almost no humidity and nice and cool. Maybe the nice weather's just today, but I really need to get up earlier even if it's just to remind myself that summer's not all that bad.

And today I just have two in the morning and then I'm free until Friday afternoon. I'm off to my grandmother's house. After I get some laundry done.

But first, work.

Guest Post!

I was invited to write a guest post on a blog that I follow. My first guest post ever! I flip-flopped on what to write about because this year has been, well, the year it has been, but I didn't want to be a downer.

For a while I was tempted to write about my 2013 scrapbook or my current ambition to teach myself how to sketch or my upcoming trip (a little over a month!!) to London or my stubborn determination to not go smartphone. Then I thought they might be boring to people who don't know me. So I decided to go ahead and be completely personal and write about How I didn't become a Librarian.

Now that I think about it, I should have probably written about gyoza, but then again, I'm planning on making a photo book of my gyoza adventures, starting from the Gyoza Ikemen Parties of the Summer of 2008. Good times.

Anyways, enough ramblings, it's a quarter past midnight and I have a 7am tomorrow, which means my alarm is going to go off in about 4 hours. Whee!!

Good night.

PS Hello people who came over from Elizabeth's blog! I hope you enjoy your visit in my corner of the blogsphere.

Morning adventures: TORELU price increase

On of my favorite morning sets is TORELU's breakfast.

Udon, rice, fish, nori, and a kind of side for 250yen.

But was too good to last. They're raising the price to 350yen, which is still way cheap.

And to say thanks to the regulars, they're selling 250yen meal tickets in books of 10. Going to have to get some figuring this is my only weekend breakfast spot.

Same old, same old?

To work. Maybe it was just working in the evening and not being drained of all life when I got back, but I kept thinking it was Saturday last night, which kinda bummed me out.

Regardless of my desire to just sleep and work on stuff, I have three decently full days and one Tuesday morning coming up.

Meh. I'm going to blame the heat.

Aaand back to work

The new no-Friday-morning schedule has already paid off; I stayed up until 3am Skyping with my mom now that she's safely back in SoCal.

I work for about a month, then it's off to Fukui for ten days of hellish international children's baseball fun in the sun. (Yes, I volunteered to do this, but that doesn't make it any less hellish.)

Three days to recharge, then LONDON!

In the month I'm in the Tokai are, I'm going to my grandmother's three times and going to Disney on Ice with a friend.

And I've got one reservation in for Restaurant Week and it looks good! If I get the okay from the restaurant, I'll be Instagraming and Vining a storm of deliciousness.

At Centrair

That one's my mom's plane. :)

She's headed back to SoCal. It was a really short trip. Probably not short for the cat, who will be very happy to see her.

Next time I see her will probably be October when I'm planning to head back to SoCal for a week or two.

Vining from the train window

I lodged my iPad into the train window and I'm tapping the Vine screen every few seconds. I'm quite interested to see how this turns out. I have the ghost mode on, so I have an idea of what I've captured, but this might just cause seizures...

To Centrair

My mom's meeting up with a friend at Meieki so I'm taking her suitcase to the airport a day early. It's damn hot, so I'm getting lunch and hanging out over there until I pick her up and we go to the house.

Not that I mind; I like Centair. One of nicer airports out there.

Kick-ass clouds

The pic doesn't do it justice. The setting sun makes it even prettier. And ominous. Especially since I'm headed in that general direction.

With the clear skies today, I had hopes for Orihime and Hikoboshi, but I suppose not. Though I tend to go with Taichi's theory that they are still having their annual date above the clouds.

Movies: TRICK-Last Stage

There's going to be another TRICK movie!!

All the way in January of next year, but yay! That chick lied! (By chick, I literally mean baby chicken. If you've seen TRICK 2, you know what I mean.)

I need to remember to get my TRICK 2 t-shirt when I go back to California.

Yay! Yamada and Ueda are coming back!!

And the web address is yamada-ueda.com

Got some days off so I painted my nails a non-work-friendly color.

I'm getting better at this.

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

Heading back to Nagoya a bit earlier

A storm is on it's way. And I have to be at the radio station at 11am tomorrow. Not even finished with my translation yet. Mostly finished, need to check some official names.

I'm going to get that done, then play with my food sketches.

Anyone following me on Instagram probably already knows, but I've decided to log my London adventures as sketches. It'll mainly be food, drinks, and buildings. I figure if I practice now, I'll be able to have a clearer idea of what I want to do when I'm in the UK.

This one is the unagi pie cream sandwich I had yesterday at the Unagi pie cafe.

Expect photos of sketches of food over the next few weeks.

At the Theater: 真夏の方程式

It's been a while since I've seen a movie this satisfying. Especially one based on a novel that I like.

It did the book justice. Great job by the screenwriter, director, and of course, Masha and the actors. Possibly the closest Yukawa to the feel of Yukawa in the later books.

Also the book was Utsumi, but Kishitani was actually acting like a cop in the movie. That was cool. It's almost like the second season was there just to set up for the movie.

But honestly, it was all about Yukawa and he was seriously great. Wow.

At the Theater: 真夏の方程式

Whee! Masha! Galileo!

Will report later.

@ the Unagi Pie factory with my mom

We're going on the factory tour.

After that, we're meeting a friend for lunch and watching the new Galileo movie.

Heading back to the house after saying good-bye

So while I'm determined to never show up at a work party on time or maybe even an hour late, I'm really glad that I stayed.

My supervisor (there's an official anagram for her position, but for simplicity's sake, let's go with "supervisor") is being transferred and today was her going away party.

She's been nothing but awesome and supportive through this hell of a year I've been having. Even before that, she's been great, so it's sad to see her go. Things are not going to be the same.

That's life and we all move on, but just for tonight, I'm going to wish things didn't have to change and be bitter about it all.

The guy who's coming in her place is cool and I think it'll be a stimulating change, but no one can replace her.

I'm going to miss her.
