We had an awesome time.

So awesome that I took full advantage of taking the day off and slept in until noon. So worth it.

Looks like I've caught a bit of a cold. I took some medicine and now I feel groggy, but I'm still heading out for my training session and picking up some newly released books.

Gotta get some tips for the New Year holiday because otherwise, I'm just going to sit on my butt and eat mikan all day.

Alrighties. Errands today. Two work days. Then it's off to my grandmother's. Whee!

Headed back

Currently on the subway back to the house. Samancha will soon be on her way back to Hama.

It was an amazing trip filled with many good things.

I've already posted a bunch of Instagrams and will continue to post more over the next few days.

This pic is on the Santa Maria after we checked out from our hotel, which you can actually see in the background.

Ravenclaw nails-Part One

Samancha comes into town tomorrow for Interstellar, magic hot chocolate, and BINGO at a burger joint.

Then we're off to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas at Hogsmeade. Whee!

Expect mass Latergrams over the next few days.

As has become a thing for me this year, I've decided to do my nails for the occasion.

Ravenclaw colors in a candy cane stripe pattern and I'm hoping to pick up something today for holly leaves. I already have gems for the berries.

On a side note, out of pure coincidence, my nails match my new bag. I swear that was not planned.

Today's to-dos:
-Lunch with a dear friend
-Find holly leaves for my nails
-Training (maybe the last time this year)
-Check the weather and pack for USJ
-Make enough space for Samancha to sleep over

Here we go. :)

Notes to myself

I've started to stick up messages to myself in my booth. Slightly effective during lessons, good for a recharge during breaks.

So it snowed last night. I managed to get back from my grandmother's with only minor delays.

And today I got to wear my snow boots!

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Which means I get to wear my boots. Happiness!

Also! Started cleaning my room my yesterday and found my ear muffs! Ears are now warm and toasty, making everything okay.

It's the little things in life.

Headed to my grandmother's for the night. Then my sprint to the end of the year begins.

Not sleeping tonight

Because I heard about it on The Colbert Report and a bunch of my friends are listening, I started listening to Serial.

So far, I recommend it. One down, ten to go.

Multiple birds with one stone

I've started a new project. The whole of it will be a sort of life's pursuit, but for now, I'm working on practing writing Japanese while hopefully passively learning to write kanji, practicing proper writing position, and inputing a certain piece of literature into my brain for above mentioned life's pursuit.

Also: Bought a new fountain pen and 4 new inks. Will Instagram tonight or tomorrow. :)

At the Theater: MIRACLE デビクロくんの恋と魔法

I have the day off. Toma has a movie out. Coming to the movies was only natural.
(I know Aiba-chan is the lead, I'm in it for Toma.)

It's mainly groups of girls, but there are a few couples. Props to the boyfriends. Or maybe he has a thing for the lead actress. Then props to the girlfriends.

At the theater: Dracula ZERO

I enjoyed that.

Let me say: I'm not a Dracula or vampire buff. I'd like to say it's because knowing the literature and lore would spoil the fun of watching these movies by making me nitpick at everything, but let's be honest here, it's because I'm not into it enough to look it up. (I'll probably be saying the same thing about space when I see Interstellar.)

It had its flaws: It was cliche (but at this point, aren't all vampire movies?), the ending was rushed, and the very end left a Hollywood franchise aftertaste, but it was entertaing. And that's all I really ask for in a movie.

At the Theater: Dracula ZERO

Or Dracula Untold, I believe is the original title.

My first movie in over a month!

The holiday season movies will start this coming weekend. Then I'll be back in the theater almost every week. Whee!

CreaMa Day Two: Headed Back

Samancha is on her way from Nagoya and I'm headed back to the house after another inspiration filled Creators Market behind us.

I think I spent more today than yesterday...

Purchased a few extra trinkets including another ear hook, a key-hugger, and an adorable penguin charm. No purchases above 2000yen, but these things add up quickly.

Will post haul Instagrams later. :) So many goodies!

CreaMa: Day Two

Headed to Meieki to meet up with Samancha for Round Two.

Yesterday, I miraculously spent less than 10,000yen.

Stationery is the main part of today's purchases and I want another ear hook, so I'm thinking at least 6,000. Other purchases should be under control.

Just managed to post yesterday's haul Instagrams before I left the house. I'm revisiting one of those artists today to pick up way more of her work. A lot more. Can you guess which one?

CreaMa: Day One-finished

Five hours since I arrived, I'm headed back. I've had my fill for the day.

-visited the artist that I know at his booth and chatted a bit
-saw a toddler passed in her mother's booth area with a sign on her blanket saying "Not for sale"
-got a compliment on my newest piece of steampunk ear bling (which is delightfully comfortable to wear)
-picked up a bunch of postcards from an artist I missed last time

Will Instagram the haul when I get back to my room.

And there will be more haul tomorrow when Samancha and I hit the Illustrators area. Love Creators Market. Might branch out to similar events outside Nagoya next year.

CreaMa: Food!

Got some rotisserie herb chicken and plotted the rest of my day. So many more booths to cover...

CreaMa: The Mini-booths

Two hours in, I'm about two-thirds of the way through the mini-booths and already spent about 6000yen.

2000 of that was on this earcuff that I just had to have.

CreaMa: Day One

It's that time of year again!

With my friends all having prior engagements today, I'm going for both days this time. Samancha will be joining me tomorrow.

And I am prepared! I have my CreaMa notebook to record my haul and tucked 3x5 cards covered with booths of interest into the handy pocket on the clear cover.

Today I'll mainly be hitting the mini-booth building that we usually glaze over due to sheer fatigue and the craftsman section so I don't have to drag Samancha there tomorrow.

But first, CoCoIchi for morning curry.

A change of pace

So for reasons to boring to get into here, I've switched up my weekday teaching locations and I'm in Sakae twice every other week. I kinda like it.

And not teaching the last lesson like I used to means I'm not on the very last train with the scary drunks. Though still enough drunks to smell up the train car. Thus the aroma oil infused face mask.

One other major plus, or minus, is that Loft is now totally going to be a regular haunt. Whee!

Turning Pages: The Shining

About halfway through, I'm just waiting for everything to go to hell. This is my first time reading the book and I've never seen the movie, but you really can't get away from knowing the famous and most likely terrifying parts.

Regardless of the anticipation, it's a good read. The anticipation makes it more exciting. :)

West from Kanaya

Out of the paper ticket area and back to my IC card. Two and a half hours to go. From here: less tourists and more locals. Closer and closer to reality.

Tea! Yay for Kawane-cha

Picked up some tea in Senzu at a shop with an adorable dog keeping watch outside. The shop lady and I had an "I know, right?!" talk about the proper way to make green tea. I like her. :) She helped me pick out some omiyage items and gave me some sweets for the trip. Yay!

Now I'm on the way back to Kanaya then to Hama to transfer to another train to then get on the tiny train to my grandmother's.

Will be getting in around 4:30. Three and a half hours...Time to listen to a bunch of downloaded podcasts!

And waiting

I got kicked out of the minshuku because their check out time is 10am regardless of the first train down to Senzu being 11:30 and me being their only guest for the past two nights.
So now I'm sitting at the station with an hour to go.

Stamped one of the postcards I have with me to send to my grandmother. Writing that should take care of some of the wait time.

And back to Okuizumi

Today was lovely.

The tunnel was definitely a bad idea, but an interesting experience.

Now waiting for the train back.

Debating if I want to ride the car with maybe too much view or just take a regular car where I can still open the window all the way.

Figuring how cold it's already getting, tall mountains blocking the sun and all, regular car is sounding much better.

Mission: Get back to this station in 2 hours

So since I have time, rather than chill here or go to the onren, I've decided to go up the mountains some more.

It would have been great if I could take the train from up there, but unfortunately, heavy rain washed out the tracks a few months ago.

So I walk until 2pm,then head back. Sucky part, there's no sidewalk.

Heading for a tunnel. Will text later.

From the station on the lake, I went on a hiking course that took me across the river, through the woods and over a number of bridges, each with their own personalities. Some a bit frightening, though none as terrifying as the bridge at Shiogo.

Walking today was great. Especially since today is the day after a three day weekend, I have the place almost all to myself.

Currently taking a break before crossing back over the river. Snuck my leftover rice and fish from breakfast with me as a make-shift onigiri. (Yay for ziplock bags.) Also bought some kashiwa mochi at a station from some local ladies. And there have been drinking fountains in very convenient locations, so I'm set for lunch. Even brought my tarp with me so I don't have to sit directly on a very mossy picnic bench.

And the weather! It's perfect! Sunny and cool.

I considered going down to Senzu for some tea shopping, but that can wait until tomorrow. Which also means I need to find stuff to do for about three more hours but knowing me and the sheer number of photos I just took, I think I'll manage. :)

Expect lots of Instagrams when I get back to my room tonight.

The station on the lake

This one is cool. My dad would have loved this.

Also, left a message in the station notebook declaring my fandom. Hehehe.

Good morning!

After a relaxing evening of pretty much nothing, I'm off to higher up and further in.

Reception may not exist. Will post if possible.

Made it!

I lied. I have been up this way before. That was the first time I went up the Oigawa. Waited around forever for a bus then went and crossed a bridge. Good times. (Hi Jon! :))

This time when I got to my station, seeing the lost look in my eyes, one of the station staff asked where I was headed. I told him and it seems many people get lost, because he took me to my accomodations for the next two nights. That was sweet of him, but I'm pretty sure it was just to kill some time; trains come about once an hour.

I'm staying in a minshuku, so basically a house. And tonight I've got the place to myself. It's quiet. Exactly what I needed.

I don't know if I want to ask about wifi. Part of me wants to take advantage and stay off. The other part wants to post pretty pics on Instagram now! I'll see how long I can hold out.

...less than 5 minutes. Just got the wifi password. Hehehe. Hi Instagram!

Made it to Senzu

Now to Okuizumi. I've never been past Kawane Ryogoku before.

Looking forward to this.

Steam locomotive!

Whee! I'm not a tetsu, but I am. Love trains and train rides.

Even bought a bento.

To Shin-Kanaya!

Got my tix for the SL and a bento. Headed to Shin-Kanaya. A short trip up and a bit of a wait then, a long train ride in a steam locamotive up the Oigawa.

To Shizuoka!

Got up early enough to watch the TOKIO portion of Zip!, got breakfast downstairs, decided to wear my cut-up TOKIO shirt, packed, caught the first few minutes of Ippuku, checked out, got my butt to Tokyo station, mailed off a postcard to TOKIO, and got my Shink and train tix for the first half of my Kawane trip.

If I get reception up in the mountains, expect lots of photos of green and, if I'm lucky, yellow, orange and red.

Back to reality

Or not. Actually off to a different adventure of sorts.

I get to my next hotel at 2 o'clock.

Here we go.

That. Was. Awesome.

Impossible to put into words.

I adore these five guys more than words can express.

And they are too sweet to their fans. We are such brats and they still sing more for us. But there's something about them where we need to push. We need to make sure that they know that we love them and this is one of the few ways we can do that.

And they'll keep going. I know they will. Because that is what they do.

Anyways, now to shower, rehydrate, and go out to show off my post-concert lack of voice to an old work buddy.

Day Two!

Whee!! So much less chaos.

And I'm really close to the Taichi side stage. And an aisle seat! Squee!

Chilling out before the concert

Love this park. It's huge and has big trees too.

Putting my tarp to good use and taking advantage of the overcast weather by listening to some more TOKIO and reading the pamphlet book.
