At the Theater: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Going to the new Midland theater for the first time. After a long day of walking, I thought about going back to the house, but checked movie listings and remembered this movie was on it's last few days. No clue if it'll be good or bad,  just kinda want to see it.

Still have some time before the show, but my feet are completely wiped out. Chilling outside Nagoya Station until the sun goes down.

LAX to NGO: Good news, Bad news

This was definitely one of my more eventful journeys crossing the Pacific. Let's play Good news, Bad news.

Good news: Traffic to LAX wasn't that bad at all

Bad news: My flight was delayed by over an hour and scheduled to land when my connecting flight departed

Good news: Bradley Terminal has outlets and free wi-fi and security was insanely stress free

Bad news: My flight left even later than the delayed time

Good news: The flight itself was smooth enough, watched a bunch of superhero movies (Civil War, X-Men: Apocalpse, and Batman v Superman) and sitcoms (HIMYM and Friends), and we landed before my connecting flight

Bad news: It was still only 30 minutes before my next flight

Good news: The flight attendants moved me to the back of the plane just before landing to go up the stairs and walk through first class to get out faster

Bad news: First class folk are really slow when it comes to getting their stuff together (though I don't blame them)

Good news: Still got off the plane in record time

Bad news: I needed to get from Gate 10 to Gate 35

Good news: A staff member met the Nagoya-bound folk and drove us to the closest security check point in one of those carts. And she went FAST and helped us cut the security line.

Bad news: After security, we were on our own and of course Gate 35 was at the end of the hall. Like all the way.

Good news: After a mad dash (2 minutes, according to my smartphone), I got on the plane on time.

Bad news: My suitcase did not.

Good news: Once I got to Nagoya, the staff were really good about guiding me through what to do paperwork-wise and stuff

Bad news: I have to wait until Monday to get my suitcase

Good news: They're delivering my suitcase, so tonight I'm going back to the house with just my backpack and regular bag and I don't need to ride the train or walk up the hill with my suitcase.

Bad news: My reserved seat on the train was next to a smoker who obviously had one or two between getting off the plane and getting on the train

Good news: Still relatively new smartphone kept me relatively pre-occupied and got back to my room quite smoothly.

Bad news: Autumn has yet to arrive in Japan and the humidity is still hanging in the air.

Good news:  Took a shower and got refreshed. Checked Netflix in Japan for the first time (subscribed back in SoCal because Stranger Things) and realized that not only can I still access a lot of American dramas, a bunch of Fuji TV dramas are on there, including Galileo.

Bad news: There is a very good chance I'm just going to binge watch this and not sleep tonight.

Good news: I'm in my PJs in my bed. Safe and sound. Good night.

First ever smart phone post

Let's see how this works out.

I already love the convenience of it. I had my reasons for staying away from a smart phone, but with the declining support for mobile sites on my non-smart phone, I knew I had to act quick.

I might even blog more. Instagram usage has already surged and messaging services have obviously become easier.

I had a bit of chaos yesterday with a mix up at the shop plus me not being used to the screen and not setting up the way I want it which lead to a rather objectively silly string of haphazardly typed messages and completly unrelated stickers... I've started to get the hang of it.

Though seriously, what is up with the speed at which the battery just drains? Will have to set up a back up battery system like everyone else. Meh.

Okay, now that I've used 3% of my battery for this post, I think I'll stop here.

One last note: Check my Instagram today. There will be Tokyo pics.

Jota Takahashi Coffee

I've found another cafe to love near the house. Awesome atmosphere, good food, and hand dripped coffee.

And their macchiato is the real one.

And they have affogatto! Must try. So many things on this menu that I want to come back for to try another time.

At the theater, After thoughts: To Young To Die

What the hell did I just watch? XD

It was way more than the trailers let on, which is refreshing. The intentional shaky camera work left me really queasy, but I bore through it.

One of the most WTF movies I've seen in a while. Worth it, but not for everyone.

Hope my tummy recovers in the next 30 minutes for my training session.

At the theater: Too Young To Die

I couldn't resist. Nagase is a bright red horned demon in hell who is a teacher at Hell's Agricultural High School. He's also the vocals and guitar of a band called HELLS. Seriously, KudoKan. What the hell? XD

Quite looking forward to this. I'm expecting beautiful chaos.

Kamiki-kun's in it too, which is awesome, but let's be honest, I'm here to see Nagaqe have fun and shine. Whee!

Saturday, June 25, 2016

I can't wait to see this! The posters make me smile. No expectations, but I think I need this kind of movie right now. And Nagase looks like he's having so much fun.

Maybe I'll go on Monday before training.

At the theater: The Huntsman-Winter's War

Or the Japanese title translated: Snow White-Kingdom of Ice

I often wonder about Japanese movie titles. I understand the origins of this movie -I'm watching it 60% to see Charlize Theron's Evil Queen again, 30% for Chris Hemsworth, 10% for Jessica Chastain, 10% for general eye candy- but seriously, there's no reason to reference the first movie in the title.

Rant aside, yay Evil Queen! She's my model of good posture.

Post-climbing BBQ in Sakae

Post-ribs, pre-not-so-pulled pork.

Also discovered that I do not like bacon-infused bourbon.

Killing time with Latin!

With an unexpected hour and a half on my hands, I went down a weird rabbit hole, looked up a bunch of quotes and ended up playing with Google Translate in an attempt to translate a TOKIO lyric into Latin.

The way my brain works sometimes...

At the theater: Mini Deadpool! #デップー発見

OMG! He's so cute!

And really well made. Had to perch him on my popcorn. XD

Sorry for the massive flash. Got a better shot on my iPad. Will Instagram him later.

The theater is pretty packed for a Wednesday morning. Though it is the first of the month, so cheaper tix might be part of it. I have to wonder though, how many of these folks don't know what they're in for?

If I overhear any interesting post-movie comments, I'll let you know.

At the theater: Deadpool

Starts at 10:15, so popcorn and coke for breakfast.

Postcards and a late lunch

Settling in until the heat outside dissipates. Hoping to get most of these postcards at least addressed before I leave.

How I spent the night after work

Updating my planner/journal.

Still don't like drawing people, but it actually kinda looks like Deadpool. Once I color him in, it'll be close enough. At least I got him drawn. That was the hard part.

I'll work on this week later. Trying to figure out what to include for this week.

Monday shirt

I had already gotten two new shirts when I came across this one at GU, but I just had to have it. I know it's for people with normal work schedules to get over the Monday blues, but Monday is my training day so it's quite fitting in a different way.

In other news, Nagoya's apparently 36 degrees? What is this madness?

Shiro Noir!

Not wanting to go back to the house, I bought a whole load of stuff at Tokyu Hands then dropped by the Komeda near the house. Love their iced coffee.

The current packaging for the nuts is the Komeda guy and a brick building and the flag in the top right corner is typically a lampshade, but I got the rare Shiro Noir!

For those unfamiliar with Komeda Coffee, a Shiro Noir is a warm danish topped with soft serve. It's a Nagoya thing.

Okies. Now to eat my food, drink my coffee, and write in my planner. And if I can handle more sugar, get a shaved ice for dessert.

At the Theater: Captain America: Civil War #TeamCap

Round 2!

Opted for a seat near the back this time just to see what it's like. Not too shabby.

Also, being Tuesday afternoon, it's pretty empty. I'm still going to annoy everyone here by laughing too much. Except maybe the white guy sitting near the front. And anyone else like me. :)

AND! If the trailers are the same, I get to see the Rouge One trailer again! And a bunch of other good ones too. Squee! Time to be the loud American.

At Antico Cafe

Common sense tells me I should head back soon to beat the potential rain. But I have an umbrella and I don't want to head back just yet.

So I've gotten my fave sandwich at one of my fave cafes and I'm going to update my planner and write letters.

Things are changing, both in and out of my control. Time to step back and make a few game plans.

"Language." Cap in Age of Ultron

For reasons too long, and to be honest, too depressing to get into right now, I've decided to cut down on my cursing.

People who know me up until university, don't know me as a curser, but people closest to me, especially these past 3 years, know I curse often. Not a lot, but more easily than I should.

This morning, while enjoying my pre-work morning, I looked up "curse word alternatives" and wrote down a few that caught my eye. It was quite entertaining. Not that I'm going to use all of them, but it has made me want to find something unique that works for me.

I also need to expand my vocab in general, but I'll leave that for later.

Friday, May 13, 2016

As I mentioned Instagram, I postponed Cap to Tuesday and climbing to Wednesday and as planned, leisurely made my way to Atsuta Shrine. It's a bit hot, but just right in the shade with the cool breeze.

Made the rounds, paid my respects, and even got a bell purification. And now I'm enjoying a shaved ice next to a pond while writing some letters and postcards.

What a lovely day.

Thursday, May 5, 2016

Skipped out two weeks ago due to inescapable sleeping in, but I managed to go today. Taught my two lessons, then head over to the gym.

It wasn't as crowded as I expected and most groups left by 6ish. I was my usual loner self, trying to remind myself to focus (and not listen for my own voice on the radio) and use my back muscles instead of my forearms. Not bad. My balance has been improving recently as well and the falling doesn't scare me as much, so yay.

As the evening progressed, I uncharacteristically started up a conversation with two people who looked like beginners (not that I'm advanced in any way) and ended up trying the same problem with them (blue 25) as well as passing on advice I got from my trainer about stretching and my own experience about properly moisturizing.

Speaking of uncharacteristic, I even asked the staff for advice about the problem and I think I got it, but my hands were done by that point. Next time.

Which might be next week Friday-ish, if I can manage it.

But for tomorrow, I shall retreat into my introvert shell to recharge. Enough socializing for this week. I still need to work Saturday and Sunday.

And then it's Monday again. Yay for Mondays. Training day. And extra bonus since I took the whole of next week off.

Turning Pages: 図書館戦争 Love&War 別冊編 2

Civil War? Awesome!

Will probably watch it again soon.

After the movie, I wandered to the Towers to check out some stationery (I was good today) and pick up Love&War and chill at Antico Cafe until training at 4.

OMG! This cover! The obi! I probably shouldn't read this in public (the novels were blush worthy enough), but I probably will.

Love how my cappucino matches.

At the theater: Captain America: Civil War #teamcap

No one needs to ask which side I'm on.

Or what movie I'm seeing, for that matter.

Even got free postcards. (Samancha, they will make their way to you one way or another)

Really starting to get excited now. Yay movies!

Hunkering down at Antico Cafe

Back from a lovely day at Inuyama and rather than going straight back, I'm going to update my planner and write some letters and plot a few life things.

Yay me time! Now that I've sat down, I feel glorious release. Time to recharge a bit before the next run. I can feel it. Something's stirring. Don't know what, but it feels exciting.

But tonight, time to take a deep breath, smile, and treat myself.

Picnic in Morikoro Park!

Went out to Morikoro Park with a good friend of mine for a picnic.

Well, first we picked up wine, cheese, and other yummy stuff in Fujigaoka, then went to Morikoro Park.

It was perfect picnic weather. Had a lovely time. So needed that.

Caffeine flowing through my veins!

Note to self: lay off the coffee in order to use a Komeda ice coffee as a secret weapon when the occasion calls for it.

My pencil is moving with clarity and purpose. Yay!

Crossing my fingers I can ride this wave until I finish at least all the rough sketches.

An Odd Day

Dropped by Tokyu Hands for a few things and both times picked the slow line with a barely acceptable cashier, which is quite unusual for Tokyu Hands. And a bunch of other little things here and there that aren't quite the way they normally are. Then while waiting for the elevator, I hear "Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down..."

It's not a bad day, just a bit odd. I'm on guard for any weird stuff at work.

Maybe the universe is getting ready for tomorrow.

Or maybe it's just spring break.

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

Yay for curly hair!

I know I say this each time, but I think the perm actually took this time!

We'll see what happens tomorrow after I wash it and dry it on my own, but for now, YAY!

Also went through some massive retail therapy. More on that later.

Neko Atsume owns my soul

I started playing about two days ago and I can't stop checking in on my yard!

Just got the Mr.Dragonfly toy and Spooky already dropped by to try it out. Squee! So cute.

I haven't purchased any gold fish, but I'm considering it for the yard expansion. But then it doesn't stop.

So patient, yet constant figdeting with what I have it is!

At the theater: The Force Awakens

Figured I'd catch it one more time before it leaves the theater. Nice center seats being gone, I decided to try out Row B...Damn it's close! But my seat is B-8, so that makes me happy.

Also, I'm always curious about how close is too close, but never want to risk it with a new movie. As I mentioned to the lady at the ticket counter who warned me about sitting in Row B, it's my third time watching the movie, so I'll try it out. And as I write this, a dude took his seat in front of me in Row A...But yeah, Row B in Screen 7 is way too close. They should angle the seats a bit.

Lights have gone down. Time to go to a galaxy far, far away.

After some commercials.

Look! Rebel and Imperial cookies!

And they come in a tin.

Currently stopped in Hama on my way to Toyohashi for lunch before heading back to Nagoya.

It's been a fun, but very full couple of days. Just a bit more until I'm in my bed.

Star Wars Visions

That. Was. Awesome!

Wow. Like, no words can fully describe how well done this exhibit is.

I'm totally getting the book. And merch. Oh help me, the merch.

Shizuoka City Museum of Art

It's hot today...

Checked out of my hotel, dumped my bags into a locker at the station, and now finally, off to the main reason I took today off from work: the Star Wars Visions exhibit.

The Museum's symbol looks like BB-8 :)

Also...O M G the Museum Store!!

My wallet...

Hello Shizuoka!

Checked into my hotel with just enough time to pick up some food and settle in for the season finale of 相棒 and other TV tonight. Whee!

Why am I in Shizuoka, you ask? Will tell you tomorrow. :)

Spent an awesome full day in Tokyo (Odaiba, Harajuku, Meiji Jingu, with a friend from elementary school who is visiting Japan for a few days. Much fun was had.

Will post to Instagram tonight.

But for now, a shot of crepes on Takeshita-dori and my ticket to the next part of my mini-vacation: Shizuoka City.

The morning commute

People, people everywhere! This is why I usually avoid the Shink and the Yamanote Line at this time of day. But it's all worth it. And I can't complain much, got a seat on the Shink and I'm not smushed like a sardine on the Yamanote.

Had some time in Hama so I got a reserved ticket for the trip back so I don't have to rush tonight. Yay.

On a side note, while I understand my company is based in Kanto and marketing is important, there's something depressing about being on vacation and being reminded of work.

Meh. Will forget soon enough.

4 trains, 3 hours

I can see my breath...
Why is it still this cold?

I'm off! Headed east. Further than I originally planned to be going. But quite glad to do so.

Why the mystery? Because that's how I'm feeling today. :)

Be Ambitious!

Did some radio work, ran some errands, went to training. That was fun. Now waiting for the Shink.

The first of four Shinks I'm taking over the next four days. It's going to be a fun whirlwind of a trip. Will blog sporadically, but expect a bunch of Instagrams Friday-ish.

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

My right calf has been bothering me since Sunday, for whatever reason getting worse today, but sparked by envy, I still decided to make it to the bouldering gym.

I'm glad I did. My body's moving ever so slightly more gracefully. And I don't mind as much being here on my own. In it for the long run.

My calf's still killing me though.

Taxes: FILED!

Took 2 hours but I know they were done correctly. At least I'd hope so with all the people helping and supervising me.

And being stuck in a line for that long does wonders for productivity. Checked a bunch off my to-do list.

Also, there is no way I can do this on my own. None. So confused by all the kanji on the input screens. The man at the computer station was getting to his "what is wrong with all these stupid people point". Though the lady at the printer was nice.

As I was leaving, there were a bunch of angry citizens upset that they missed the cut off point. The place is open until 5, but they stop taking people around 4 o'clock. I know this because I checked the website and paid attention to the small print. They could have made it clearer, but it was there.
In anycase, it was one staff member versus a steadily growing mob. He was standing his ground quite well.

Ah, tax season.

Tax Time!

Look who's doing her taxes. Or rather, in line to do her taxes.

It masses of people, so it takes a while, but the tax office has made it quite effcient to it doesn't really bother me as much as you might think it would.

Plus it's prime time for people watching.

Gots my climbing shoes with me too. Hoping to shake out any tax stress on the walls.

The Power of ONE PIECE

So I'm headed home to SoCal for a bit in the summer and I dropped by my usual travel agency to pay for the flights. After business was taken care of, my agent brought up ONE PIECE.

We had struck up a conversation about two years ago when he noticed I was reading the newest volume at that time. Our emails back and forth after that ended up being about 30% about my flight and 70% about ONE PIECE. That was fun. But I hadn't seen him since (different agents and such).

Yet after two years, he remembered me enough to recognize me when I walked in. That made my day.

We did a bit of The next one's coming out on April 4th! OMG what's happening next?! Yay fandom.

Thursday, March 3, 2016

Sometimes time just goes along while nothing happens. Sometimes everything happens at once. Part of it is my choice. Part of it is pure coincidence.

The universe seems to have decided March is a time for movement. Rather cliche, coming out of hibernation just in time for Spring, but I welcome it.

Next week is going to be a busy one. As well as the one after. Looking forward to it, but also already bracing for the inevitable free fall that will follow.

Will post with details as things happen. Nothing *really* major. Just lots of things.

Also, not really related, I discovered yesterday that I don't know how to draw a てるてる坊主 very well.

Toma's doing a stage show this summer! That's so awesome! I'm beyond happy right now.

Tin of Belgian chocolate squares for myself.

At the Theater: The Martian

There are so many people here! It's 3pm on a Tuesday!

I kind of wanted to see this with someone, but it's all good.

Yay! The Martian! This is going to be good.
